Nothing on those pages say "higher capacity". I believe they are just reselling stock batteries.

You might look into whether installing this battery would void your warranty if Apple found out about it.

I don't think Apple locks down a specific battery to a notebook by serial number. I am sure there are quite a few people out there who purchase extra batteries, so Apple really can't void all their warranties for using other batteries!

I don't think it was a question of serial number, it was more an issue of a non-Apple branded battery. A non-Apple battery that failed catastrophically would definitely not be covered under any Apple warranty, though.

Even with that, any other brand would likely just be a "house brand" battery by Apple's supplier, anyway.

Thank you, exactly what I meant. It's not an Apple battery so you might be **** out of luck if something happens.

Oh okie. Yea, you're right about that.

i am planning on getting a mbp soon and was wondering if anyone knows if there are batteries that you can buy that will last longer than the ones apple provides? i found this site but it doesnt list how long the battery lasts.

thanks

I just took a look at that link. There is a small number just after the description that says 62 Wh. Apple site lists the stock batteries for the 15" as being 60 Wh. So to figure out the gain in battery life, (assuming all things being equal) Apple says that they get 6 hours operation from 60 Whs which gives you 10 Whs requirement to get 1 hour of operation out of the computer. The "extended capacity" batteries at fastmac have an extra 2 Wh available which is 1/5 of the requirement to get 1 hour of operation therefore those 2 Wh will give an additional 12 minutes of operating time.

Seeing as how Apples' battery life estimates are always based on a computer running idle with the backlight turned off then we can safely assume that the extra 2 Wh available would not net even 12 minutes extra, in point of fact I doubt that they would get much more than 6-10 minutes extra.
