Higher Education UK Discount with the Open University

Good morning/afternoon/evening, dependant on your time zone.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if "open university" students in the UK (i.e. those who are in higher education studying for a degree with the Open University, but not at a full time university), are able to ring up apple (since they wont have campus access to this area of the site for Higher Education) and get the Higher Education discounts on the macbook (or any apple product infact). Since they are at higher education studying for a degree.

Has anyone has managed to who is an OU student.

If you are a member of the NUS (National Union of Students) you can get 17% off any Apple product,

Yes I am an Open University student in the UK. All you need to do is send away the form to become an NUS Associate (they have a special form/membership card for OU students, but its entitlements are the same)

Once you apply and receive your card you can log on to a special area of Apple's store through the NUS website and vast savings are yours for the taking :) You can do this from any computer, it doesn't have to be on a campus network.

They're about double the normal education discounts :)
 
Cheers Shadow. Didn't realise that! Just gotta cancel my regular education order! All means I get a 1.83 1GB Macbook for only £680!!!! Yay!
 
With a nus number, do you order it over the phone? So you can state you are a student etc... and paulman what spec are you getting for £680?

Its £703 actually. Thats 1.83Ghz, 1GB RAM, 60GB HDD combo in white.

I do want the black one but spending the extra £££ doesn't seem worth it really.
 
I just ordered my MacBook for £673 (Inc VAT) with upgraded 80gb Hard Drive via my Uni's NUS apple store...BARGAIN

:eek:? Looking at the NUS Store now, the mid range model is £773.15 - Are you saying this is going to get cheaper?!? Or is this including the supposed doubled discount? That’s crazy money; I can’t see how they would break even on it.

Can you get these discounts in store? I'm going down to London in the summer, and I could just pop into Regent Street, I guess, but if they don’t accept NUS cards in store then that would be a pointless tube hall.

You just get the normal edu discount in the store (like the edu page on the apple website). Loads of places have special apple stores online (my work has one - same price as edu) but NUS seems to be the best.

Thats including the double discount.
 
Got my current ibook in sig for £670 it was £640 plus extra for larger hard drive. Is a great machine BUT...

Those MacBooks are awsome, needless to say my lovely iBook is up for sale so pm for a bargain! Willing to sell for what I paid, seriously someone on ebay will probably stump up ;)

Alas being the fool I am the link I had saved for access to the High Edu discounts when I bought the iBook was on my eMac which I promply did a clean install of my OS 10.4 upon. Doh!

We UK users need the edu discount to make up for the 'unusual' apple exchange rates. Especially as the Dollar is slipping ... fast :p

Visit America fairly often - Vegas Junkie - so may pick one up in the Fasion Show Mall or at duty-free if Dixons ever stock them. Bloody 17.5% VAT

On a side issue anyone use Microspot Interiors under Rosetta? What is the speed like? I use it to design house plans and kitchen interiors.

NEED MORE MACS...
