higher fan speed = longer display life?

Asking a general question here:

After one year of running time, my iMac 27" got some "smoke" on the display ( as seen here http://i45.tinypic.com/2wh30c1.jpg )

i got it repaired now, the warranty covered it, but i wondered if this could be of a heating problem.

would the new display last longer if i turned up the fans?

what are your opinions?

Couldn't be a heating problem, the concentration of those darkspots are right between either of the two major heat sinks.

The whole body of the iMac acts as a heat sink lol. Speeding the fans up won't do a lot, maybe it was just a bad display from the beginning.

but in general, wouldn't a cooler imac live longer? or do you think it wouldn't really make a difference?

maybe it lasts a couple days longer , but my guess is these engineers who developed the iMac knew what they where doing when they did setup the smc settings in the iMac .. at least thats my hope that they did not just put in some figures as they went along and most iMacs run within the tolerances of the parts inside so generally noting to worry and if there should be a problem ..... thats what apple care is for

Doubt its heat, the metal cases on the current iMacs are really good at radiating heat away from the components.

If it really bugs you get a copy of iStat and check the temps out
