I've noticed a lot more HDR content and that YouTube uses more battery lately. M1 Pro MacBook Pro 16 gets to 55 degrees watching HDR content.

I tried downloading the YouTube video using Downie and watching the video has the laptop running at 41 degrees.

I guess that's reasonable for HDR and I guess that there's more processing for it.

The fans still do not come on but I was a bit surprised at the battery life and thermals on this change from YouTube - or maybe it's from the creators of the videos.

I have noticed the same thing. M3 Max MacBook Pro 16. Standard average operating temp is 40 degrees. When watching some video content, temp jumps to 46. Granted, none of the videos have HDR, but it could be the codec.
