What is that mini mac pro behind the monitor? I WANT ONE!!

It's certainly an external hard drive. I want to say that's a G Technology HDD, but I can't be sure.

Edit: It might not be an external HDD.

I dont think its an external. It's too detailed in the back and up to spec with the ports on the mac pro. Maybe it's the mini tower we have been waiting for :p

It is an external, there was a discussion about it once in the post your set up thread

It's a model of the PowerMac G5, presumably given to Steve when they were developing the design.

Note the pair of fans (the Mac Pro has one), the location of the power plug (Mac Pro is at the top, G5s were down the bottom) and the single row of I/O ports (Mac Pro has pairs).

I think its pretty logical to assume its a design prototype/mockup of the mac pro.... not an external HDD due to the back of it and how detailed it is and how much its pretty much exactly like a mac pro...

its also not that hdd linked because its wider in shape.

It seems pretty straight forward to me that its just a mockup design of the mac pro.

You dont have to produce a full sized product to get an idea across. I guess its just a mini mock up that could have possible be shown at a presentation around a table or something to show off a design idea.

It's the mock up of a PowerMac G5. Notice the 2 x 92.5mm fans on the back (the Mac Pro only has one 120mm) and the bottom mounted PSU connection (the Mac Pro is top mounted).

It's also not plugged in to anything so it's doubtful it's an external...although MacAlly does make some external enclosures that resemble the design.

Is that just a blow up of the original image?

In any event, yes, I believe that'll work, thank you :)

regarding the mini-tower, I noticed it myself a few weeks ago.

For anyone interested, the picture is in the Time commemorative issue to Steve Jobs, released on October 17, 2011. It's on page 54-55, and taken by Diana Walker.
