History of iPhone camera shutter sound effect, specifically 4S

Could someone please help with these questions:

Ignoring the possibility of user modification, is the soundfile used for the camera shutter sound effect intrinsic to the phone itself, or is it part of the OS?

Has the camera shutter sound effect changed for the different iPhones and/or different versions of iOS?

Specifically, is the sound effect recorded here: https://www.freesound.org/people/Nathan_Lomeli/sounds/79190/ the right camera shutter sound for the iPhone 4S?

I can only answer the first question.

The shutter sound is part of the OS in the sense that it is placed in a specific hardcoded spot within the file system. If you are jailbroken, you can access the file system. It's a sound file and it has a specific name - photoShutter.caf. You can find it here: /System/Library/Audio/UISounds

Stock phones may be able to access that file location using third party apps on a PC or Mac.

Renaming the file has the effect of silencing the sound because iOS is looking for that SPECIFIC filename in that specific path.
