Hitachi 4TB internal drives

Yeah, that was the plan. Although, despite the 5400rpm speed, it appears to have an incredible sustained data throughput rate. 161MB/second?
I did a double take, but yes 5400RPm, still a good price though. My NAS is complete for the moment but one of the four drives is an old Samsung SP 250GB. It's creaky, and I just use it for bits and bobs now as It has become noisy and is due to expire.

My WD RE-4 drives in my RAID only get 138MB/sec, which is fine since I run eight of them together for 1101MB/sec if I wanted to stripe them all together, haha. I was impressed by the 161MB/sec at 5400.

Me too, My project storage tends to be of an archival nature though...4 is enough. If needs be I can up capacity so it's flexible.

Finally found a review on this drive:
Diglloyd's Review in a Mac Pro 3.33 GHz 6-core, on the internal SATA bus.
"As seen below, write performance declines very consistently across the drive as expected— see Larger Hard Drives Are Faster Than Smaller Ones.
Read performance is nearly identical, but with an odd dropoff at about 80% of the drive capacity.
A speed of 100MB/sec or faster is maintained to about 61% of the drive capacity (just past the “600” mark in the graph below). So with about 2.4TB of data, one gets relatively high speed access. Beyond that, drive speed declines to subjectively slow levels, dropping to well below that at about 80% of capacity (3.2TB) and beyond."
I'm impressed enough to pick one up this week as my tertiary project & data backup drive.

Fry's had them for $279 before taxes just last week. $70/TB on their larger drives is the going rate for now. Once Ivy Bridige is out I am interested in pushing my old Core i5 750 back somewhere as a server.
Just installed this drive in my 4,1 --> 5,1 Mac Pro. AJA System Test disk speed test of 16GB file, cache disabled gave a solid 129MB/sec for both read and write. That's faster than the 96MB/sec that my old Hitachi 7200rpm 1TB disks from Apple will give in the same slot, and this is only a 5400rpm drive.
All 4TB showed up, no problems. I'm happy!
