HL:2/CS:S error; caused by Boot Camp?

Once I finish installing the 5th disc, I try to run Steam and I get the following error message:

Steam.exe (main exception): CMultiFieldBlob(pSerialized): Bad field - extends past end of blob

and I can only click "OK". I've rebooted and still gives the message when I try to run Steam or CS or HL. I've installed it twice and it still won't change; I have about 3GB left on the HDD partition after I installed it.

Is this caused by Boot Camp or by Steam, or what? My HL:2 discs are legit.; bought 'em from Best Buy yesterday.

Looks like your stuck maybe the discs have a problem with them? First take a check on the Steam web site, do a search with the error you may get someone with a similar problem. It may be your discs or the version number, I'm not sure.

You can try deleting or uninstalling it and try again, if it's your discs though you might have to head to best buy and exchange it for another copy. Also there is an alternate way to install it, it takes a LONG time though and would require you installing it on a PC. You'd have to install it get a Steam ID and register the games with it. Then go on your Mac, download Steam from the Steam site and it will know that you can download those games from Steam for free since you own them. It will take a while because Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source together are like 8gb. Go to Best Buy and explain that the software isn't working on your PC. Don't mention the Boot Camp thing though, they'll probably find some way to screw you out of an exchange.

Did you install Steam from steampowered.com? Make sure you have all Windows updates. Make sure you have DirectX 9.0c installed, etc etc.

Disconnect form steam
Close steam (with task manager)
Delete the client.BLOB file in your steam direcory.
Restart steam


Its a common problem with steam.
