Hold "c" key while restarting has no effect

I want to boot from a DVD. While restarting the computer I hold the "c" key so that it will boot from the DVD. This does not work and the computer simply opens the Snow Leopard desktop. I have tried with a normal wired keyboard as well as a bluetooth keyboard. Kindly guide me in this matter.

Did you try the option key, which will bring up a menu of bootable devices to select. Perhaps the disc is not bootable, if it isn't then it will not show up in the list

What EXACT DVD do you want to use to boot from? Does it show up in System Preferences > Startup Disk?
