I have an opportunity to buy a used 6s, and am considering getting that to hold me over until Apple releases the new phones this fall. Do you think it's worthwhile to wait for the new XR-ish model? The most important thing to me is the camera... I would really like optical zoom like the XS. I tried the XS -- loved the size and camera, but I felt the eye strain and had to return it.

Not even a sure thing they will make another xr this year.

I got a 64gb used on ebay for $550 and love it

The XR is still only 5 months old, it may be that they don’t release the next iteration until late October again. And I imagine it will be a very marginal upgrade tbh

The 5C was never upgraded. Don't count on another XR upgade. That's not to say it won't happen, but just don't count on it.

The 2019 XR comes with dual rear lenses.

iPhone XR is Apple's most popular model. It's silly to think Apple wouldn't launch an XR this year.

There is zero reason to believe the XR won’t be refreshed this year. It’s Apple’s strongest offering right now for $250 under the XS, and keep in mind, this phone was also intended for the Chinese market, which Apple _needs_ to have a secondary phone that’s more affordable under the pricier XS. Apple has every reason to refresh this phone for 2019.

Your XR or 6s?

Would be worth waiting for that!

We don’t know for sure that the 2019 XR will be dual lens. The difference between XS and XR is already quite small, so I will be surprised if Apple will give them the same camera, unless Apple has some something good up their sleeve.

I personally think that the 6s is a good idea. If the 2019 XR isn’t as good as expected, get the 2018 XR at a discount. If it is, then that’s great too.

Not sure why people are fussed about the dual lens. Not only does it look fugly (although Apple have done it a lot better than on Android phones, where they were clearly slapped on without a thought as to design aesthetics), but the camera has literally been good enough since about the iPhone 4S or 5

No one cares how the dual camera looks on the back of the phone, because no one looks at the back of their phones. The dual camera still is a selling feature, and it makes sense that Apple would use this as an upgrade option for the 2019 XR if it’s refreshed.

I think there is a rumor going that the next XR will have frosted glass back?

So if you like the "old/elegant" smooth backside, perhaps buy a 2018 version.

I use a case with my phones, so it won't matter to me. (I do love the colors this year though.)

Will the double camera provide optical zoom? I don't really care about portrait mode, but I loved that one touch for 2x optical zoom on the XS.

Disagree, the design is important to a lot of people even if you are not usually looking at the back of the phone. Otherwise why would people care about new colours etc.

One of the main reasons some people buy iPhones is because the design is nicer and more premium, the back of the S10e in comparison looks cheap and nasty, and that clearly nobody had put any thought into the design. The design could be more important to some people than a slight improvement to a camera that’s been good enough since 2011

Makes a big difference in photos. Function > looks. I could care less about the aesthetics of a phone, it's a tool to be used not admired

IMO wait, since the new phones will be out in less than 6 months (at least the flagships). No clue what you're currently rocking, but a used 6s should do the job till fall.

Going by your post? Wait, rumours are the XR will get dual cameras this year. Although the analysts haven’t exactly been very accurate lately...

That’s what everyone said about the SE. Still waiting...

Nobody said the SE was Apples most popular phone... Contrary to what a few folks on this forum who still prefer small phones would have you believe, it did not sell that well. Otherwise Apple would have made another one by now.

The XR has to be a marginal update, because if it was substantial, it would likely just cost more if Apple included a variety of hardware upgrades. And truthfully, does the XR really need to be overhauled? No. It essentially competes already with the XS in terms of wireless charging, True tone, A12 processor, stereo speakers, etc.
