For those of you who don't know...
In Mavericks and older, when you hold shift while changing volume, it changes without making the sounds.
In Yosemite, this is reversed. When you hold shift while changing volume, it makes sounds. It's a new sound.

If you have volume sound effect turned on (in SysPref/Sound/Sound Effects) holding shift will silence it.
Yeah, the new sound is like thumping an empty paper cup bottom.

I wonder when OS X will have new alert sounds. We've had the same sounds since the begging of OS X. iOS got new sounds. :(
