I have seen this mentioned in a few posts but wanted to see if I was doing something wrong.

On my old iphone 3G, you could shut down apps by holding the home button for approx 3-5 seconds and that would shut the app down completely to make sure it was not draining the battery. now with my 3Gs, if I hold the home button, it goes to the Voice control and does not shut down the app. any thoughts?
thanks

The new way:

Hold the sleep/wake button until the 'Slide to Turn Off' comes up, then let go of the sleep/wake button and hold the home button for 3-5 seconds.
