I can't believe it! Ordered my new 24" "custom" iMac (2.4Ghz upgrade to 2.8, 500GB drive etc), on Monday, and my wife phoned this morning to say it was here! Considering Fed Ex was showing a delivery date of tomorrow or Friday as of this morning, I was pleasantly surprised. :D

I ran home at lunch time to check things out. Of course, I'll have a ton more time this weekend, but I was really interested to see if Leopard was pre-installed. Sadly, it was not, but the drop in was in the box. No complaints really as now I have a copy of Tiger and Leopard for the machine. (Probably buy Leopard soon anyway to upgrade my old Powermac G5 once the new machine is up and running).

Quick, literally, 1st half hour impressions? It's gorgeous, LOL. I took it out of the box to make sure all was OK physically; installed 4GB of OWC ram, plugged it in in a temp spot, and fired it up. Look FANTASTIC! Ram recognized, screen appears to be perfect when looking at all gray etc., and yep, the 500GB drive and 2.8 procs are in there. ;)

I think I'm really going to love this thing. Now I need to decide whether I really need to hookup my 20" ACD as a 2nd monitor, or leave it with the Powermac. This 24 is even bigger in house than in store, hehe.

Anywho, that's it. Back to work.....now, if only I could get sick or something this afternoon!
 
Congrats!

My 24" white is due tomorrow, but wouldn't surprise me if it showed up today. Pins and needles! :eek:
 
but.. but... I ordered mine of Friday and there's no indication it's even been made yet! It certainly hasn't shipped.

Oh, now I'm jealous!

The shipment thing really did surprise the heck out of me. I really figured I would not see it until next week. Bought Monday, delivered by today from overseas to the states no less - for FREE!!!! :eek: :D

Yeah, what Quarterswede said regarding the installs, but I MIGHT try it out. :)

On top of that though, I would like to be able to install it without having to have Tiger installed first should I need to down the road. Also, as I'm getting a uh, free copy of Fusion from Vmware, I'm an ESX server admin with "connections", I figure it can't hurt to fork over a few bucks for an OS. :D
 
Mine arrived today too! FedEx said tomorrow, but I've been refreshing my tracking page incessantly ever since it shipped, and to my delight, it showed up as "delivered" a few hours ago and I ran down to the security guy downstairs and picked it up! Upgraded to 2.8GHz processor and 750GB HDD. 4GB of OWC memory purchased separately. Ordered on Friday, delivered Wednesday. Not bad!

No Leopard preinstall for me either :( I'm posting from my old iMac G4 15" lamp and Leopard is installing on the 24" right next to me. Looks like its wrapping up, it says 3 minutes remaining. It's been going for a bit over an hour I'd say.

Anyway, I now understand why people were complaining about the glossy screen. The sun is pouring in through my window and the glare is pretty bad. It'll look magnificent in a darkened room though.

All in all, I'm a happy camper so far. Leopard just finished installing, and the computer is restarting! ANTICIPATION!!!! :D:D:D

I ordered mine last Friday and the status of my order hasn't changed since either. I keep telling myself it's because they're spending extra time ensuring that every iMac leaving the factory is free from bad pixels, dodgy screens and freezing graphics cards...right?
 
Judging by the recent order date/delivery date comments above it there still doesn't seem to be way to predict shipping times. It's still a mystery.

yeah I know waiting sucks... I am still waiting for my Leopard disc to come in! if it doesn't come in tomorrow I am just gonna dl it! (technically I did pay for it lol)
 
Mine came 2 days early then fedex tracking predicted too (last week monday). I too did the 24" iMac, 2.4 base, upgraded to 2.8, 750 GB HD, and 4 GB of OWC RAM. This seems to be a pattern in this thread. Great Machine. Been running it for 10 days, runs perfect, no freezes, no screen gradients.

Wanted to give a follow up on this.

Went home early yesterday, and spent most of the evening installing the OS, apps, and getting things transferred from my machine. Even though it's only been a day, I've put quite a few hours in front of the machine already. A few notes:

I appear to have no screen issues - it's perfect as far as I can tell.
Lockups, cross fingers, have not happened yet - things are VERY smooth and VERY fast.

I've also installed most of my primary apps:

Aperture
iLife
Office 2004
Quicken 2006
PS CS2
Portraits and Prints
Along with a host of small stuff like Flip for Mac, utils etc.

All of these are running perfectly. Also, I decided to try out Time Machine on a newly purchased WD MyBook Pro II. (1TB raid capable device). I have it hooked up via FW800, and it's also running flawlessy.

I'm back at work this morning, but so far, I absolutely love this thing. Speed is GREAT compared to my G5, and did I mention the screen is amazing? :D

So far, the only issue I'm having is with Leopard, and I actually have a post about it in the OS X forum. For some reason, I cannot seem to "add" a folder to the desktop\wallpaper selection applet. It adds it, and says it's already there if you try to add it again, but it's uh, missing, LOL.

That's it for now....will report on any issues or new stuff.
 
Yay! My iMac finally shipped! Here's the updated timeline for those curious:

Ordered 10/26
Missed original estimate of "Oct. 30 - Nov 6" was updated to "Nov 2 - Nov 6". Actually shipped Nov 1!
Don't have tracking info yet. Will update when i have an estimated delivery.

When it gets here, I'm curious if I'll have Leopard or Tiger. FWIW, I upgraded the HDD to 750 GB. Maybe that was the delay?
