I was worried for a week, about a month ago. The home button didn't seem to be working properly. It didn't close programs or switch on the screen without at least two presses.
Then as if by magic it started working fine again and no longer fails to respond. The change didn't coincide with the last OS upgrade. If I had bought the device locally I'm sure I'd be on my second iPad by now, but as I imported it I decided to put up with the annoyance to avoid complications. Now the button works like new.
Anyway, I'm just posting this in case someone has a similar experience. If you can wait, give it a few days and see if it sorts itself out. I really don't think this was a hardware problem and I don't believe the fairies came and fixed it.
