Ever since upgrading to iOS 17, Home sometimes thinks I’m not home if I restart my iPhone. I first saw this immediately after upgrading my iPhone 12 Pro Max and other Home hub devices to 17. I saw it again after setting up my iPhone 15 Pro Max and I saw it today (17.1).

What happens is that about 30 seconds to a minute after I restart my iPhone and enter my passcode, I’ll get a notification on all my devices that everyone has left home and all my automations for leaving home will fire. If I restart my iPhone again it will say I’m home a few seconds after I unlock the phone, but then say I’ve left again.

To work around this I need to restart all my Home Hubs (Apple TV 4K (2nd gen) and 2 HomePod Minis). After doing so I can restart my iPhone without it thinking I’m not home, at least until the problem happens again.

Anyone else have this start happening periodically since upgrading to iOS 17?

I noticed this the other morning! When I turned off the Sleep focus on my phone, I noticed I had a TON of notifications from the Home app about motion detection on my indoor and outdoor cameras. I found this to be quite strange as my cameras switch to off when I'm home. I opened the Home app and found that all of my cameras were set to Stream and Record even though I was home.

I restarted my iPhone and went back to the Home app. All of my cameras then switched to off but they legit did not recognize that I was at home and they should have been turned off.

Definitely a first for me and most certainly a bug...
