Just updated to iOS 14, having a problem adding a widget/stack to my Home Screen. Swiping right, I can find the two I want by scrolling to the bottom and customizing the widget display. They work fine there. But those same widgets don’t show up as options when I go into “jiggly mode”, “+” to add them to my Home Screen, and search or scroll for them. The list of available widgets is actually far shorter than the list of my apps that support widgets. DarkSky’s widget can be added to Today via “customize” but is not on the list and can’t be added to Home Screen, and that’s an Apple app, for Pete’s sake. i.e. I have widgets that seem only available to Today View but not to add to my Home Screen under this new iOS 14 feature. What am I missing?

edit: so in Today View when I tap & hold some widgets, “Edit Home Screen” appears but when I tap it only those widgets go all jiggly. Only those widgets can be dragged around, even to the Home Screen. Some 3rd party widgets can be dragged/stacked to Home Screen, like Fantastical, and some can only be added to Today View but can’t be jiggled & dragged/added to Home or stacked, like Accuweather.

The older "classic" (pre-iOS 14) widgets are still only available on the Today View screen, while the newer (iOS 14) ones can be placed there or on the home screens. While various apps have released updates that include new widgets, many haven't yet.

This thread may answer your questions (tldr, Today View widgets versus iOS 14 Widgets)

Thanks for the reply. Strange. The Accuweather widget has been updated as per an FAQ, but maybe not for iOS 14. And you’d think Apple would at least ensure that their own apps’ widgets, like DarkSky, were fully enabled. I guess all one can do is wait. And be careful of getting an app for its widget, especially a paid app!

Seems like Apple is integrating DarkSky information into their own Weather app, so it's possible they aren't spending much time updating that app these days (and perhaps might even get rid of it).

In terms of other apps, yeah, they can get updates and not have their widgets redesigned necessarily. Seems like looking at screenshots and reading release notes and perhaps even reviews is the way to go to see if an app has a new widget.

Having said all that, while new widgets are nice in terms of looks and where they can be placed, they do seem to lack a bit when it comes to how often the data they display can be updated and what the widgets themselves can do (for example, with some older widgets you can even perform some actions within them, while that doesn't seem to be something that is supported with the newer ones).
