Maybe it's because I have a lossless library, but the album artwork shows up 5 seconds after the song starts. Didn't have this issue with ALAC, but it keeps bugging me when I use AIFF.

In fact, the Home Sharing music interface lags quite a bit. I never had a problem in iOS 4, or even in iOS 5b3 and before, but it's really slow now.

Please help!

iOS 5 w/Home Sharing issues

I am experiencing disconnection issues with iOS 5 home sharing. Here is what I have discovered:

Setup:
- Windows PC with iTunes 10.5
- Verizon iPhone 4 with iOS 5 (previously iOS 4.2)
- iPad 1 with iOS 5 (previously iOS 4.3)
- Apple TV 2 with updates for iOS 5 (previously out of the box)

I purchased Apple TV a week before iOS 5 came out and was very pleased with the performance and the responsiveness when browsing and viewing my library. Immediately following the updates for iOS 5 on the Apple TV my home sharing from the main menu disconnected often and could only be resolved by restarting my router, iTunes (some of the time) or my computer.

I also ran iOS 4.3 on my iPad prior to that and had no issues looking at my home share library. With iOS 5 on the iPad my home share often disappears as well - typically after I have started viewing at least one item off the share.

I can't validate the same experience on my iPhone since home sharing wasn't supported in iOS 4.2, but with 5.0 now I experience the same behavior that I get with the iPad and Apple TV.

To me this means there is either iTunes or iOS 5 issues since those two factors are the only two that changed. This isn't an Apple TV issue but a home sharing issue.

I get it that some people have disabled wireless on the Apple TV, but that is not an option on the iPad and iPhone.

What are other people's thoughts on this?

I am experiencing disconnection issues with iOS 5 home sharing.

I think we are off topic here and apologies to the OP.

After upgrading iTunes to 10.5 and ATV2 to iOS 5 my iTunes library sometimes doesn't appear on the ATV2 menu. I believe the problem is iTunes.

When my library doesn't appear, I also have no AirPlay icon in iTunes (bottom right corner). If I close and restart iTunes, the AirPlay icon appears and then my library is also available in ATV2. There is no wireless network between iTunes and ATV2.

I've been troublshooting iTunes 10.5 issues with Home Sharing for a few days now.. I've concluded it's 100% iTunes at fault, there is a defect in how it connects to the network and it can not be seen reliably by all the other devices (6 for me ATV2 & 5 devices) I've disabled firewall, restarted all devices.. it's an intermittent thing and from my searching the internet we're not alone and it doesn't matter if you have a Mac or PC, both iTunes are not working.

Do you notice iTunes freeze for a few seconds constantly, WIFI sync is unreliable, iTunes library goes in and out of accessiblity... something is really wrong with iTunes 10.5

I've never had issues until i upgrade iTunes.

Agreed - bittersweet but hearing we are not the only ones helps.

PNutts - never intended to go offtopic, I was merely demonstrating that the issue extended beyond AppleTV and was across the board with the latest update.

Add me to the list of people having issues with Home Sharing. My Mac is constantly stuck on the "Checking SO and So's Library for new purchases", and when I click on the Shared Library for my wife's PC, it just disappears. Once that happens, and I quit iTunes on my Mac, it pops up a crash report.

10.5 is fundamentally broken. I hope they fix it soon!

I Found the problem. :D

For the record, I'm experiencing the exact same problem with my 2010 15" mbp (10.7.2) and a 2 day old iPad2 (came installed with iOS5).

I got the "shared" menu to come up on the iPad once for a split second and connected, but was then unable to play any songs. Since then I've turned off/on home sharing, the lion firewall and the devices themselves in an attempt to get it to work. Since that one instance I have been unable to get the "shared" item in the "more" menu on the iPad.

bummer
