Home Streaming

I have an iPad and an iPhone 4 both of which are on iOS 5. What I'd like to accomplish is being able to stream my home media (mainly videos to be honest) from my computer to my iOS device.

I've done a bit of searching and is VLC Streamer my best choice? I'd rather save the money and find a free solution, but beggers can't be choosers.

You could give Air Video or Plex a try.

I use home sharing to stream from iTunes, and it works great streaming to multiple iPads, iPhones, and apple tvs. However, I've already formatted all of my videos to be ios friendly (mpeg4). If you have different formats and don't want to change them all, a different solution is in order.
