Anyone know what’s up with these iOS 13.2 features? I have quite a few Logitech Circle 2’s and an Eero Pro (6 routers, 2 beacons) setup. Both these companies were slated to be the first to support the respective features but I got a pop up that says I don’t have any supported Secure Video cameras and I don’t even know what to do or look for with the Eero and Enabled Routers. Nothing looks different. Internet search brought up nothing. Thanks.

I could be wrong, but I’m sure I read that Logitech would have to provide a firmware update for their Circle 2 cameras to support secure video. I can only assume they haven’t, and that’s why they don’t work currently.

Yeah I’m sure you’re right about that... I thought this whole waiting game was with Apple, not Logitech... or Eero lol. I don’t even see placeholders for them in the Home app tho. Nothing in iCloud either. Like it doesn’t even exist on the Apple side of things.

Knowing Apple’s track record of crappy software releases recently, it probably doesn’t even exist.

Haha. My Homepod almost took a nose dive last night. It’s stuck in a preparing, downloading, installing loop and show as No Response in the Home App but it still works other than that. How that gets by QC, along with the bricking is absolutely mind boggling.

Logitech has to update the camera which they have said they are going to before the end of the year.

Thanks. Must’ve missed that. I tried searching but all I got were articles from WWDC. I figured there would at least be some sort of placeholder in the Home app though.

There are no placeholders and doesn't seem to exist because what Apple released is pretty much just some APIs that can be utilized by third parties to enable this functionality.

Said functionality doesn't show up right now because it would just be something you can tap/see that would show "you can't do that" or "there's nothing to see here". Sort of like if you don't have any current HomeKit cameras, you can't see any of the standard HomeKit camera stuff.

I'm impatiently waiting for Logitech, Eufy, or someone to get something out there - really itching to pick up some more cameras and that itch keeps itching!

I’m wondering. Can you set up a Logitech circle with just the home app? Would be great to cut the “wire” completely from Logitech when they enable it as I don’t want recordings or live streams going through their servers at all.
Only problem I guess is all the settings in the Logi app that you no longer have access to (resolution, wide angle etc)

Ok, thanks for clarifying that. I currently have 19 Logitech Circle 2’s and waiting for the Netatmo Doorbell which is supposed to be available by the end of this year.

Good question. That should be the whole point of the HomeKit Secure, right? Interesting.

IDK if you can set it up without going through the Circle app first, but if your router lets you, you could probably just block outbound internet access to the cameras. Everything should go from camera->HomeKit Hub first.

I'm just worried that Logitech will require a sub with them to enable HomeKit Secure Video. That will cause me to buy Netatmo or Eufy.

The sub is supposed to be through Apple with an iCloud storage plan. They may have some kind of behind closed doors deal going on.

Wow! I only have 2. I was going to get more when WWDC hit and now I'm in a holding pattern for HomeKit Secure Video before I buy several more.

Yeah, I'd prefer a backdoor revenue share over Logitech forcing a second sub over the top. I just have this sinking feeling when it comes to IoT device vendors and their revenue streams.

They’ve always worked great for me and even better since I went to the Eero Pro WiFi. I waited for the deals to pop up and jumped on a few at a time. Every so often they’ll do a 30% promo. This last time they screwed up and posted on FB, 50% when they meant $50 off. Screenshot it, sent to corporate and they honored the 50%. Picked up the last 6 lol. Never paid full price for one yet.

These cameras are nanny watchers. lol and they’re not hidden either. I want them to know they’re being watched rather than hidden cameras when it might be too late. Two small children at home and we both work.

Am pretty sure Apple will only support up to a maximum of 6 cameras using Secure Video.
I remember reading that too and I believe that’s with a 2TB iCloud plan.

I only need my outdoor cams to keep recordings in case of burglaries. Indoor ones will be fine with the standard 24 hours and using that awesome day brief feature. The great part about the Logitechs are that you can download and save the videos indefinitely to your photos app. Come to think of it, the cloud storage isn’t even necessary lol

I’m only on the 50GB storage plan so suppose I only get one camera. I’ve got a separate CCTV system in place but I do like my gadgets!

Edit: just ordered a used but cheap one from Amazon to have a play with.

Ok so I did some more digging and did find some sort of reference to Secure Videos. If you click on a user in the Home App you get an option to allow them to either stream or stream and view recordings. It’s something I suppose...

I can't understand the logistics behind this. Most of these camera based security systems make their money from selling you the yearly subscription for data storage and access to videos. How is Apple going to convince them to give away their customers? Do you still need to pay Logitech? Does Apple pay them and smaller percentage hoping to regain that from increased iCloud storage subscriptions?

I was thinking the same thing. Apple May have convinced them that adding this support to HomeKit will result in more hardware sales. It’s possible Logitech’s subscription isn’t producing enough revenue. I have 19 cameras and not one paid subscription. I can imagine I’m not the only one. Maybe they have some type of two way back door deal going on. Who knows...

I agree. I can’t imagine many people subscribing to these ridiculously expensive and potentially insecure storage plans with the likes of Logitech etc.

In my opinion I don’t think Apple have had to give these companies anything, I think it’s as you say, it’s an incentive to buy that particular model if it integrates completely and deeply with Apple HomeKit. It’s just quite simply in Logitech etc best interest to provide the latest and greatest features.

So I was curious enough about the cloud subscription motivations to go through the latest earnings call transcriptions for Logitech and Arlo, as the primary examples of HomeKit camera providers with cloud subs. Netatmo and Anker (EufyCam) aren't pitching cloud subs, so they're clearly focused on hardware sales.

Logitech: no mention of smart home, cloud, subscription services at all. Not surprising considering their overall product portfolio of hardware accessories. Biggest surprise: they have a GoT slot machine in casinos!

Arlo: subscription revenue is emphasized repeatedly. Goal is 30% of their revenue stream from subs.

TL;DRs:
- No surprise that Arlo has no plans for HomeKit Secure Video after a read of the transcript. I couldn't see it happening before, and I'm even more convinced of it now.
- @StumpyBloke and @Itinj24 could be right w/rt Logitech - they might just be positioning services to push more boxes.
