Hi, I got my HomePod on Friday, really happy with the sound, especially at low volumes (20% seems to be a sweet sport where you wont annoy the neighbors).

I also have two echos, now when i say Alexa she responds instantly, however with Siri I sometimes have to say Siri 3 times for her to respond, or put on an English accent (I'm from Glasgow). She understands OK when activated its just a pain getting to that point.

Anyone else have this problem or could it be a faulty unit? (delivery driver did drop the box when handing it over...).

Thansk

Try not pausing at all between "Hey Siri" and your request.
Hey thanks for the reply. i've tried that, its more she just doesn't light up, i need to say the phrase "hey siri" like three times, i really think it would be better if it was just a one word wake phrase like "Siri". Sometimes it will work first time but id say i have like a 33% success rate first time. Maybe she just doesnt like the Scottish accent :)

That's really bizarre, perhaps your unit is faulty? For me Siri works almost 100% of the time at normal speaking volume. It took a while for me to get used to just saying my request as a conversational phrase rather than "Hey Siri", wait a bit..., "Play whatever" I also still feel "Hey" rather than "Hi" is a bit unnatural for UK English.

Accent-wise Siri isn't too bad with my Scots accent. Although that may be softer than yours, as I've been down in London for more than 25 years. (I still don't drink shandy:D:D:D)

Do you have other devices in your home that react to "Hey Siri"? If you have several devices that are triggered, it will take a good second for the HomePod to take control of the request and all other devices to hand over the responsibility to the HomePod.

If my hand is sitting on my lap i notice that sometimes the watch activates, i leave it for a bit but the Homepod stays dark, I might just go to the apple store and ask to swap it out, may just be my accent though...

I don't have a HomePod but I find my Echo does not respond instantly, there definitely is a pause, both on my echo and dot. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
suppose its all down to accents and maybe internet speeds?? But yeah Alexa wakes a lot quicker, I will have more of a play with the Homepod tonight, tbh i had a few glasses of wine on Saturday when i was using it, so I may of been slurring my request... And hopefully apple will be tweaking Siri since it seems to be getting the brunt of any negative reviews.
