HomePod HomePod & AppleTV?

Okay, this may be a dumb question. If it is, please forgive me.

I'm hard of hearing, wear hearing aids. On my television and sound system, the only way to be sure I catch the audio is to use close captioning. This weekend I was at a friends house and he had a very expensive sound system, I was able to hear perfectly.

I'm hoping that HomePod will have the same impact on me, I'll be thinking about that as it gets closer to release.

But . . . the major reason I'd be interested in it would be to stream the audio from my AppleTV (4th Gen) through the HomePod. Will this be possible?

I don't think anybody knows for sure yet. Though I'd say you should just get yourself a similar setup as your friend. It doesn't have to be expensive either. Just start out with receiver and a pair of bookshelves. That should help tremendously if you're currently using the TV speakers.

I wouldn’t bet the farm but 99.9% sure it should work the way you want it.

Being an AirPlay receiver by design it should function as such. Also being an iCloud device the option for it should pop right up in “Audio Output” like other AppleTVs do.



From there the remote controls the volume of that device simplifying things even more.

That said I would wait to verify this from users here and/or reviews.

There is no way it wont work with the Apple TV. not. a. chance.

the AirPods work so the HomePod will.

The Homepod works with Airplay which is built into all modern Macs and iOS. Once set up the Homepod appears in the Airplay list in the Mac sound menu (speaker icon in menu bar - might have to set sound preferences to see the icon). Just select the Homepod and you are in business.

A big disappointment is that the lipsync with EyeTV is way out when playing audio through the Homepod. Live (free to air) TV is therefore unwatchable and so I have had to set the EyeTV audio output to internal speakers.

I haven’t tried Airplaying movies from the Mac as I use an Apple TV for this and currently it is connected to a hifi.

As reported by Macrumours the sound clarity of the Homepod is brilliant. I noticed during setup that it does has accessibility features that you may find useful.

Dunno if it has any use of replying in this old thread but nevertheless: works like a charm
