Hello,
I need a new device for my Apple Home Hub (video, pushes and Hue lamps).

I can not use my 2 Apple TVs and I can not use my iPad Pro, because it’s not always home.

Basically, I could buy a new Apple TV, a Home Pod or a iPad mini.

Is the Home Pod a good choice for a Home Hub?

Greetings,
Laura

I have two ATVs, a HomePod and my IPad Pro marked as Hubs. My Hub of choice is the Apple TV because it can be hardwired via Ethernet to my router. Don’t know if it makes a difference but I’ve had the least amount of issues using the hardwired ATV as a Hub being that HomeKit is not a stable platform. The other three Hubs remain on standby in case the the main Hub goes down for whatever reason.

Plus, the ATV is the cheapest of the three you mention.

It just depends on your needs. Do you want an extra smart speaker or extra apple tv.

If you don't really need any of them, do is Itinj24 said, get the cheapest option: Apple TV.

Yeah, I don’t need three Apple TVs and I don’t have a “smart” speaker yet.

One of my EXes gave me 5 - 6 speakers and a receiver for it. I hope it’s the right technical name for it. It’s a big box with box cables. The sound is very good and I am using it for parties...but I need to use stupid cables for it.
A lot of male ppl. are impressed by the setup of my Ex...but it’s a big hassle to use a cable to connect my iPhone with the big black box.

So, I can use the Home Pod for Home Kit? Can my friend play music on it too, if they are in my WLAN?

Xoxo,
Laura

Yes the HomePod can be used for HomeKit such as asking Siri to perform tasks like turning on lights. Can also be used to make and receive phone calls, add alarms, etc. Not too sure if someone else can play their music on it if it’s on your iCloud for now. I know iOS 13 is supposed to allow for multi user support using speech recognition but that may be only for personal requests and not music. Maybe Someone else can chime in on that. Does your friend have an iPhone? From what I understand, it only supports AirPlay and not Bluetooth.

Depends on the settings. You can choose that anyone can play on the HomePod or only people on the same WiFi. You can also set a passcode they need to enter once to get access.
