HomePod HomePod for dorm room?

In exactly 2 months, to the day, I'm going to be moving in to my dorm as a college freshman. Of course, I'm almost done getting all of the essentials for my room and have done extremely well with my original budget (I made myself a budget and bought quality items at good prices thus far) and I have been wondering if a HomePod for my room would be a useful/cool bonus. I already found a guy willing to go $245 cash on an open box one (of course I'm going to successfully pair them first, before paying) and was curious if I should jump on this opportunity at this price. I was thinking of getting some LED (no-bridge) lights to link with HomeKit too, so we can use Siri to control the lights. I know it's not the most frugal decision but my work has 2 HomePods and I've been able to hear the sound quality and that alone has almost sold me.

Can anyone endorse or criticize my thought process here?
$245 HomePod worth it?
LED Homekit lights?

Well it's sort of the apple and oranges thing. If you get the HomePod you are getting the capability of playing music in your dorm room. [I'm ignoring Siri functionality here, other than its convenience in playing your music]. Having Siri control your lights certainly would be interesting, but it just gives you a learning opportunity (home kit usage), and maybe convenience, but doesn't give you any new functionality. You can always just turn on lights manually.

Personally I'd skip the lights and use the money to save for a 2nd HomePod to make a stereo pair.

I’m a university student that lives in dorm I have a stereo HomePod in my dorm single dorm. I think you should get the homepod with the lights it would be cool especially at night when you don’t want that actual room light on. Since I have a stereo and I’m good friends with my dorm mates I moved the stereo HomePod out of my room to the living to share it with my suite mates to listen to music

Do you know what kind of WiFi network is in the dorm? I don't believe HomePod works with a WPA2 Enterprise network for example.

Thats a great point, at most colleges the wifi setup is a hassle and locked down.

Yes, my coworkers daughter had to request the ability to use her own airport express in her room for the HomePod to use.
