When asking HomePod to play some iCloud content (so no streaming from another device), anybody else seeing that, if available though, Apple TV is also being activated in the background?
It can be best seen within the Home app with both the HomePod (expected) and the Apple TV (not expected obviously) being shown as running/activated.
It this a normal behavior you also encounter or maybe were not aware of when do some basic native music playing from your HomePod?
