I’m not sure when it began but I think it’s after the 16.3 update my HomePod mini just randomly starts playing music without my prompt. I set the airplay to home users only and I’m curious if someone hacked my home like the Siri light won’t even light on and Siri won’t even make a sound is my HomePod mini finally cursed

There are some reports of Mini's experiencing "phantom touches" on the top touch area, and if that happens, it can trigger music to play. Probably not fixable with firmware if that's what's happening with your parents. I think somewhere within the accessibility settings for HomePod you can specify a longer hold time for a touch, which might alleviate the issue. Cats may also trigger playback so it would be good to eliminate something like that as a cause too I guess.

I spent the whole weekend trying everything.
Touch is set to the longest amount 4 second.
Siri set to Hey Siri.
Factory reset multiple times.

Firmware should be changed to disable it completely.

Parents would need get a cat for that to trigger it.

I ended up putting super thin black coasters over the touch portion on my full size HomePods as cats were an issue. The coasters just sit on the circle touch part of the HomePod as I don't use the touch features anyways. My cats often walk over or near them and even if they barely touched the top of the HomePod with their paw or belly, the HomePods would start playing.

I have this problem too-I have two Minis paired in my bedroom, and have tried all the standard tricks. The only way to stop the sudden cycling of random songs I’ve never heard at ear splitting volume is ti just unplug them. This even happened with them when they were unpaired and in another room/plug entirely. The music playing also causes Apple Music anywhere else it is playing to stop. Surely this will be fixed soon. Ugh.

Parents having the same problem and it's still not fixed in the latest firmware.
This has been happening to my parents’ HomePod Minis too. Why is it always the parents? It’s been happening for awhile, up to a year maybe. We tried a bunch of things but couldn’t fix it. Not sure if it’s still an issue. They might have unplugged theirs.
