I too would like a 'FaceTime/touchscreen capable' HomePod, but for a speaker, your design is all screen.
if based in the realm of audio; the design would need to utilize the vertical space for part of the speaker's resonance camber (instead of the small box at the bottom) Utilizing the vertical space you'd achieve a lower freq response and louder SPL.
Embedding the screen into the face of a Hompod with a iPod Touch would be nice but this leads to another issue of the screen possibly interfering with 'spacial recognition' tech.
Industrial Design can be 'threading a needle', lets hope is headed in the right direction.
