Just noticed that I can ask any HomePod to unlock or lock my front door and it works…even when my phone is locked. According to all Apple documentation, this should not work apart from when the phone is unlocked.

Anyone noticed this?

I’ll try it. I mean it should using voice recognition.

Didn’t work for me… The HomePod told me I need to continue on my iPhone or iPad.

Are you on iOS 18.4.1? I haven’t updated to that yet.

So yours is working as expected.

My Apple TV which is the current hub is on the latest developer beta. My HomePod minis are as well. And thinking about it my iPhone and iPad are as well. The only device which is on a full public release is my OG HomePod. I’m really hoping it’s because of being on beta software. I have reported it.

Thanks for checking.

Yes, correct, but I always wanted a hands free option to lock/unlock using voice recognition. I mean, most of the time Siri doesn’t even recognize my voice so I somewhat trust it lol and I have an angry Dingo for back up. Been using that workaround with a virtual switch for only when I’m home.

No worries. Good to see you’re still around. This sub dried up a lot.

I got a friend of mine to try it when he came round and it unlocked for him. He also asked Siri who she thought he was and she “thought” he was me… we sound nothing alike! It’s just garbage.

Ooof. That’s no good. Definitely a bug.

Yeah and a pretty bad one. No feedback as of yet but I have reported it, don’t think there’s much else I can do.

I do think however with regard to smart locks, we should be able to disable Siri from having all control if desired.

Yeah, HomeKit needs a lot more granular control for a lot of things… I was thinking about going Home Assistant for the backend.
