Hi all

As the post title says I am at a loss as to why i am having the problem I am. Let me explain further, by the way I have searched forums but to no avail, so any help would be great.

I have an apple TV and an old mac mini acting as a 'media server of sorts' the arrangement works flawlessly any files I have stored on the mini stream to the ATV over my wireless network, be they purchases or handbraked, so for so good I am a happy camper.

However when I access the mini from my macbook using the homeshare feature in itunes the purchased movie files or home movies will stream to the macbook but the handbraked ones will not.

If I navigate to the folder on the mini directly from the macbook and select the handbraked file it will play on the macbook???

Is this a homeshare issue or a handbrake issue or sometnhing else, I am posting on the handbrake forum as well but I need the help of the collective genius.

Thanks in advance

I am posting on the handbrake forum

link?

If this is a new issue imposed by apple, how can they justify it just based on the fact that people have user generated content via iMovie and even raw cam footage?

I have no doubt that the good people in the community will have very little issue sorting this out if it is true and becomes a problem to overcome. I just hope it will not require a recompiling of hard media to digital...

Whats next? a "personal picture" review process that certifies your content to be on their machine?

Can anyone confirm a similar scenario with issue?

I have the exact same setup and just tested the scenario you're having problems with and was able to play any media from the Mini (purchased or encoded with Handbrake) via Home Sharing on my macbook. Not sure what the cause of the problem could be though, sorry.

I can play both purchased and Handbrake content using Shared Library in iTunes. There is no need to break out the tinfoil hats.

N.B.,
"Home Sharing" is a relatively new feature that lets you copy content from iTunes library to another. "Shared Libraries" is the feature that lets you play content from another iTunes library, and that feature has been around for a long time.
