I’m on my 4th iPad. I currently have the iPad Pro (’17 version). I love this thing, and don’t ever want to be without the ASK. But, my iPad screen becomes unresponsive & it’s getting very annoying especially when playing a multi-player game. (The screen has a very thin crack - assuming some relationship there.) I have tried resetting.

It’s gotten to the point where I either need to send it in to Apple for a replacement or buy a new iPad. And, that’s where I’m hoping for advice. I don’t keep up with iPad options unless I’m considering buying one, so kind of clueless. Here are the options I see:

1. Send it to Apple for a replacement - $449. Worried about how long that would take in today’s environment.

2. Buy the new iPad Pro - $800. I don’t know that I NEED the Pro, considering that a 3 yo Pro is still meeting my needs. But, maybe I’d get more years out of the Pro than I would the other options. Would the new Pro use the existing ASK?

3. Buy the iPad Air - $649. (I had the iPad Air 2 before the Pro and liked it except for the lousy speakers.). Since the Air is 10.5” would it accommodate my current ASK?

I use the iPad as I would a laptop - my personal laptop hasn’t even been booted in months. I do gaming, streaming, use Office apps, browsing, etc. on the iPad. I don’t care about the iPad’s camera.

Advice?

Wait for dub-dub, the rumors is that the regular iPad will get a12. That gives you all that you need for half the price.

2. Neither the 2020 nor 2018 iPad Pros work with the old ASK. Alternate option, check out the Apple refurb store for 2018 iPad Pros. The 11" 64GB wifi is $549 and 256GB wifi is $679 if you catch them in stock.

3. Yes, the iPad Air 3 works with the Pro 10.5 ASK. Mind, so will the iPad 7th gen.

Very solid advice from rui no onna. If you have a chance to get a refurb (or even discounted new one) Ipad pro 2018 then i would recommend this highly. IPP 2018 is in my opinion one of Apples greatest products of all time.

Wait, who said that?

there was a recent article here on macrumours talking about the next ipad air 4 having an under screen touch id and new ipad getting the a12 (which was assumed to be the next entry level 10.2 ipad). It would be great for the next budget ipad to get the a12 but probably wont be until later in the year if its gonna happen as the current one is quite new.
