Just a few minutes ago my macbook was involved in an accident. A trophy fell off above my desk and cracked the liquid crystal. Will apple cover this. I recently bought this in laptop in February, but I did not buy apple care. What are my options?

Sorry to hear the devastating news ...... i don't think Apple cover accidental damage but your household insurance probably will :)

That stinks!

I think a screen costs a good couple hundred dollars easily. I know when a lot of people damage their screens, they end up selling the machine then fixing it (if that gives you any idea).

will that be fairly easy to install? I am realitivly good with computers. Will is still be the glossy?

I would do it. This coming from a guy who opened up his 1-month old Macbook after returning home drunk, to remove an tiny dust bunny from the front vent, only to realize that his reassembly facilities were, in drunken stupor, much farther diminished than his disassembly skills and had to wait until morning to ask himself "What the f@#$ did I do?" Trial by fire; typing on the machine now.

you can get either glossy or matte. when looking into auctions just ask the seller if the information is not available. since you have a good working knowledge on computers you should be able to do this yourself. The site
ifixit.com has DIY instructions for almost everything. I would check them out and get the instructions just to make everything really easy.

Not as tragic but heres my story.

We had a stove for 22 years. Worked great nothing ever fell on it. It just eventually broke down cause of use and age. It was a really old one with like metal burners and what not.

We get a brand new stove with this smooth top with the burners in the actual top with a piece of glass over it making it look cool.

One week later a vase that was hanging above the kitchen cabinets above the stove fell. Nothing has fallen from there in 22 years and something decides to fall and it falls on the new stove wrecking the stove top forcing us to get a new stove.

Will sending it off to a third party repair void the waranty?

I checked with my stepmom and she said the deductible is like $500. So it will be cheaper to send it off, or to repair it.

But do you really want to make a claim like that on your insurance and raise your premiums?
Many people have a protected policy that will not automatically raise the premiums for the first claim. :)

Even if your policy is not protected, it depends on how much replacing the screen is going to cost and how much the insurance premiums will rise. A little bit of common sense is required before deciding whether to claim or just pay up yourself.

I don't know what country we're talking about, but most US policies do not cover things like notebook computers on the basis that they're too susceptible to having been broken / stolen / etc outside the home. Usually we have to get separate policies for our notebooks if we so desire.

Ireland / GB

I know that's where you live. ;) Was there an obvious give that I missed that that's where the OP lived also? :D
Sorry no idea where the op comes from, just saying what is possible in this neck of the woods. I'm sure if the op is not from around here, this information will be disregarded. I'm sure there are people who do live in this part of the world also reading this info and some may find it relevant to them.

Mine does.

I called my insurance co. and asked after i bought it - although it would be subject to a $200 deductable. For a small premium increase I was able to get zero deductable coverage on my laptops.

I had a friend that cracked a screen and I was able to replace the screen using a guide on ifixit.com. It wasn't that bad because I was very conscious about all the different screws by having an egg carton. The only problem that I had was there are spacers for the screen that I accidently put beneath the hinges instead of on top. Switching it fixed the problem. The rest of it was really easy because I had another computer where I was able to go through the ifixit guide. Good luck and let me know if you have issues!

Not necessarily. My MB's broken LCD was quoted by Apple for $800 to repair.
