So I finally switched about 2 months ago to a 3GS from my BlackBerry Bold and I am SUPER DISAPPOINTED with my battery life. I cannot even get through 1/2 of the day without needing to plug in to the car charger. This is my second iPhone - the first one was swapped b/c of the battery. I would say average use (15-20 sms, 40 min of phone, and 10-15 min of web) during this time. Does anyone have any suggestions before I decide to switch back to my BB?

Turn off location services, push, notifications, 3G, etc if it's just sitting in your pocket all day...if you need 3G or one of the other services, turn it on, do your business then go back to iPhone 1 Gen mode, lol.

What do you have turned on?
Brightness settings?
How many bars?
Wifi on? 3gs on?
Push?
Email? How many? Push or fetch?

like some of the others said, turn off your 3G, BT, and others when ur not using it. also, turn down your brightness that should also help. but from my own experience the iPhone doesn't have that great of battery life compared to my old Treo

first time here on the forums:

I've been a frequent browser here on the forums once I got my 3gs from a 3g. I've been having horrible battery life on both phones until I stumbled on some tips from fellow members here on the boards. Needless to say, I was getting barely 4.5 to 5 hrs of usage w/o much talk time involved. Basically what I did was, I resetted all network settings and then powered my phone off. I plugged it into the charger and it would automatically turn back on. I would then power it off again and leave the charger on. I left it overnight and by the next day it was excellent with the battery consumption. And its been great ever since. I can average about 6+ hours with most of it being talk time or if I don't talk much, I can get up to 8 maybe 10. This is with 3G on, push off, fetch hourly, notifications off, half brightness.
