Are there any good horror games for mac. Preferably free seeing as though I'm broke as ****. I already have:
Amnesia,
Penumbra: Overture,
Penumbra: Black Plague,
Slender,
Candles(which crashes right when I open it for some reason,)
Hide,
and 1916

So yea are there any others. It would be really nice if they were free. However if not just tell me and I'll start saving up :)

Please include your hardware in a post like this. If you have anything recent you can run Windows95/7, install Steam and then play Vampire: The Masquerade, one of the best games of it's type. It was recently on sale at Steam for less than $20.

Oh right. 10.8 MacBook Pro from March '11

4gb ram
2.3 intel i5
pretty much the norm. No windows can't afford that ****. So yea mostly free and mac horror games.

For games, Windows will give you more options and it goes in it's own partition so it does not mess with your MacOS. Just a suggestion. :)

Clive Barker's Undying might be an option if you can find it and it plays on todays MacOS. It's about 10 years old.

Yea I understand that and I want windows. However like I said I can't afford windows....

you might want to look into things like wine or winonx then if you can't afford windows. But windows is what you want.

Amnesia was so awesome...scared the pants off of me. No recommendations, sorry :)

They're not exactly horror games by genre, but the Thief series has some of the most frightening examples of pure outright terror you'll find in just about any game on any platform ever. You're an aforementioned thief who can't take many hits and isn't exactly the best in the world with a sword. That means you spend tons of time hiding, sneaking, and avoiding detection. The gameplay makes moving between regular old run of the mill mundane guards an unbearably tense experience.

...and then you get into the really creepy stuff. And by really creep, I mean it's one of the only games that's actually honestly scared the living hell out of me and made me scream.

I don't know if any of them have been ported to OSX, but they're old enough you should be able to fire them up in Wine easily enough.

Clive Barker's Undying is written for PowerPC. The only way that the OP could play that particular game would be to run Snow Leopard on his system, if possible. He could then run it via Rosetta.

Too much trouble for one game though, I would say.

Doom 3 was 8 bucks on the Mac App store. It's an old game so it should run pretty good.

When you fight the what replaced the pig deamon is pretty tense. The game is very atmospheric.

Though the creepiest games I have ever played was a PS2 game Fatal Frame 1 and 2.

Doom 3 was pretty good although I thought the combat techniques for the finale was a bit formulaic.
