Is the rest of the case hot, too? I don't have an Intel Mini, but my PPC Mini is always cool to the touch. I think the bottom may get warm, but that's about it.

I would say it's probably just fine, then. I just checked the bottom of mine and it was warm (not hot), but that's where they're supposed to vent so yours is probably doing its job. I don't know how hot the Intel chips run, but I've been on my PB for a while, and the Mini was warm from mostly just hanging around. A heavy load might make it hot.

Okay, well the reassuring thing is that it should fall fast asleep if it gets too hot. Are you doing much hard drive work, in addition to iTunes, MSN and Firefox? Something like a file sharing app or a large file transfer can heat a machine up because it work the hard drive so hard.

nope, no file sharing. although it seems that the activity monitor shows runngi those 3 apps is only using 25% of the cpu, surly that cant be enough to make thiss much heat. Is there an app i can use to check my cpu temp?

Really? Just go to versiontracker.com and search for "temperature monitor." You have lots of choices.

Nah, the Intel machines don't play nicely with these temperature monitors, unfortunately. It's because the temperature management isn't done by the OS anymore, it's done by the hardware.

I'm not sure how different the solo is, but my duo runs quite hot (on the bottom) regardless of what it's doing. Top and sides are fairly cool, but the bottom's a roaster.

I don't know if this is normal, but the fact that we both are seeing this suggests it's not rare. Mine works fine, though - just hot.

That's unfortunate. Well anyway, like jsw said, I wouldn't be too worried about it. Your Mini is most likely fine, and would shut itself off if there were a problem. As long as the sides and top don't start getting real hot, I don't think you have a problem.

if you're willing to use the speedit kext, then temperature monitor will be able to read the sensor on your cpu as well as the one on the hard drive.
