Hot-swapping thunderbolt enclosure

Hello,

I have a Thunderbolt 2 PCIe enclosure for a card I need to use from time to time. I can live without the fan noise when I'm not using it, and I was wondering if it was OK to just unplug the TB cable when not in use. The device doesn't have a power switch. I'm asking because hot-swapping PCIe cards is not what they told us in school, but this interface is different...

I always try to eject any external devices before unplugging them. I'm not sure if TB is any different but OS X powers the port and it may cause issues with data corruption. I'm not entirely sure, but I'd rather play it safe myself.

Thanks, but like I wrote this an enclosure for a PCIe card (Universal Audio) which does audio DSP processing, it's not a mass-storage device, no way to eject it that I can think of...

AFAIK, there's still powered and there may be a risk to the device, if not ejected. I can only comment on what I do, but I play things fairly conservatively
