I'm new to this forums, and I have a dumb question... Is it possible to see my hotmail on the iPhone without using the safari browser? I just bought a Mac and I used to own a PC before, so I still have all of my contacts on my hotmail account. Can anyone help me?
I'd really appreciate it!!

I'm pretty sure that's a "no." There's an Apple Mail plugin that I have used on my Mac to retrieve mail from a Hotmail account, but since there aren't (yet) any plugins for the mobile Mail application on the iPhone, I doubt it.

Through Safari, I always use http://mobile.live.com to check my Hotmail account, as it's optimized for a mobile browser and is much faster than the full-blown site.

I didn't think there was a way, but I thought I would trowh it out there any way. Thank you for the info though, I apreciate it very much. I hope they come up with something like this soon...

Thanks for that link. I've tried to use hotmail.com, and I always get caught in this endless cycle of logins that never work. I don't have to use my hotmail account very often (thank goodness), but it'd be nice to be able to use it when I need to.

I don't use mine very much either so I have a COPY sent to my Yahoo Account. However, I do have the Premium Version. Not sure the FREE version allows you to do this.

How about auto-forwarding all your email to Gmail and using that on the iPhone? If you set up your mail account under "Other" and not the Gmail preset, you can set your reply-to address toyour Hotmail address (though it'll still say something like "user@gmail.com On Behalf of user@hotmail.com").

There is a way, check out IzyMail. Thats how I have mine set up. It fowards your hotmail to your iphone for a small yearly fee.

Thanx :)

Ugh, I just did a quick search and found out that Hotmail doesn't let you auto-forward incoming messages. And there's no POP access even if you pay for their stupid service. Amazing.

Looks like the only way you can route your emails from Hotmail to something else is to use software like GetMail or MrPostman on your local Mac/PC and have it forward everything to Gmail. But that takes a lot of configuring and your machine would have to be on 24/7 to work effectively.

That's a lot of pain to go through. I'd sooner just email all my contacts to use a new email address! :D Good luck though.

Sir Lord Sandwich - You are correct. For me, (especially with Leopard nuking the http plugin to where hotmail no longer works in Mail).... I'm saying bye bye to my ancient Hotmails.

Forward the mail

I have the free hotmail account. What I did is set up a gmail account (it was time to change anyway I've had my hotmail for 15 years) Then on my hotmail account I went to options and in the more options field there is an option to forward mail to another email address. I just set that up for my gmail account and now Ican get my gmail and hotmail on my iphone for free! Hope that helps!

This is what I did also. Works great. I also have it delete the email off the hotmail account when it sends it forward to Gmail, this way I do not have to worry about my hotmail filling up. If I want to save something I just store it in my Gmail folders. Sooner or later I will have all emails converted over and I can dispose of my hotmail account.

How did you guys make this work?

I tried using my free Hotmail and the problem is that I am only allowed to forward emails from hotmail to another MSN accounts like msn, live, etc.
It did not accept GMail. Lame

The only way for free hotmail accounts I think is using izymail, but you have to pay $18 p/year. I don't want to do that.:(

Yeah that's the case for me as well. Sometimes it works. It never used to be this way until I think they updated everybody to "Live" and yeah........ I guess I'll be using the mobile link from now on.

This was posted to me on another forum, and I can guarantee it works like a charm.

Trust me, follow the instructions to the tee and it'll work.

Jeff

Hi all-

I'm hoping someone can help. I tried to follow these instructions but when i got to the point where you set up your hotmail account to forward your mail to g-mail (or whatever), i couldn't figure out how to do that. The only setting I could find in hotmail was in "Options" under "Forward your mail to other accounts". When I tried to enter my gmail account, hotmail rejected it - it will only forward to other msn addresses. How were you able to get it to work? Am I not looking in the right place?

Thanks,
Shana
