It seems about a year ago all my Hotmail accounts stopped working as POP accounts in Outlook. I keep getting errors and asked if I want to re-enter passwords, which still fails.

I changed all my POP settings to what Microsoft Support site now recommends (e.g. POP server=outlook.office365.com) without success. I CAN delete the account and add it as an Outlook account successfully, but it defaults to an IMAP account, which I cannot change afterwards. I then try to add it but select "Not Outlook.com,", click on IMAP/POP and manually enter all the POP settings from the above support page but I get an error message, "Unable to sign in. Check your credentials and try again."

I tried adding the Hotmail account manually to Apple Mail as a POP account but get the error "Unable to verify account name or password." From other threads discussing Microsoft's recent security algorithm requirements for accessing their various email domains, I AM able to add this account in Apple Mail as an Exchange account.

But the whole purpose for me to use POP is that I've had these Hotmail accounts for over decade or two and to prevent bumping into Microsoft max email storage capacity by offloading all my email locally.

I can't find any mention that Microsoft has discontinued POP to Hotmail accounts, and I have been using Microsoft Outlook app for these Hotmail accounts since the beginning.

Can anyone provide their experiences, similar or different, including solutions, if any?

This support page includes POP https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...look-com-d088b986-291d-42b8-9564-9c414e2aa040 so I think it is supported.

As you probably know, it now requires port 995 and OAuth2 authentication. @Bigwaff's link is probably sufficient so long as you have 2FA turned on for your MS account.

I just use the Exchange connection method.
