my orignial plan was 2 buy the creative labs 24 bit usb external sound card, but it apparrently does not support OSX....at least it did not mention in the specs if it did, so i'm assuming no. i sure hope the new mbps in Jan have an hdmi imput (and a blueray or hd drive)

it does, i use one all the time

input or output? (not sure why you would want HDMI input)
either way...
they woulnt

but for output you can always get a DVI to hdmi adapter

also the macbook pro has an optical out, why not just use that?
(btw you need one of these to do it)

oh....by optical out, do you mean like a fiber optic cable? so that would output 5.1, correct? i apparently recieved misinformation when the best buy guy said they don't have fiber optic cable pluggys.

thanks for the reply

(i currently have a 40" sony bravia which i use for a monitor, which i have connected 2 SS via fiber optic cable, which i was planning on connecting 2 my future MBP via hdmi)

...so would the hdmi 2 dvi cable transfer sound from the mbp, 2 the tv, and then 2 the SS?

much thanks

another SS question for you.....through the creative labs sound blaster would I be able 2 adjust the settings so that it will play things through all of the speakers (even if not in 5.1 format)? i think its called like "surround music" or something.

the mac book pro DOES have optical (its in the same hole as the headphones)

i use a fiberoptic cable to send 5.1 audio to my surroundsound amp

soo.....is it possible 2 make music and stuff play through all speakers even if the file is not formated for 5.1, via the optical cable or through the external sound card? (it is bugging the poo out of me, not knowing)

....i know u will be able 2 play it through the front speakers, as well as the center and the sub, but what about the rear speakers?

my ht receiever will decode the optical signal and if its not really surroud the ht receiver it'll fake it for me.

That should work.

Zack

mine is an onkyo HT-R340.....a slightly dated reciever, however, i only hear stuff on the rear speakers when playing 360 games.....never like for music and dvds.
how would i make it "fake it" ?

thanks
