I preordered an ipad and will get a droid phone this year (Supersonic from sprint). I think this will be a perfect couple. browsing the web on ipad with tethering from Droid is a dream, plus Droid's free and super GPS navigation, without spending an arm and leg.

anyone have this marriage? we know that this couple's parents, Steve job and Eric E. Schmidt, are building an army of lawyers to terminate the marriage but we love this compitition.

I think any high end smart phone will pair nicely with an iPad. I am a bit confused... You mention both the Droid and the Supersonic. I hope you realize the only thing they share is Android. Different manufacturers, different networks, 3G vs. Wimax 4G, and physical keyboard vs. touch...

yeah, I know all of those but let keep those technical detail behind since this is Apple forum whose focus is simplicity.

whatever you like... I just wasn't sure which phone you were looking at.

I will get HTC Supersonic with 4.3" OLED screen and 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 1GB memory, HTC sense on top of Android.

I'll be using my Droid and my iPad together. My Droid is rooted and has a wireless tether app on it, so I'll be connecting my iPad to that to go online whenever I want. I went on vacation a few weeks ago and connected my laptop to my Droid and it worked perfectly.

I'm not really sure what you're getting at though. A smartphone doesn't really have anything to do with the iPad unless you're tethering. And you called it a droid phone, and you're confusing the hell out of people. The operating system is called Android, there is a specific Motorola phone called the Droid which runs Android. Android =/= Droid.

And any smartphone is a good compliment to the iPad. Although you can say any smartphone is a good compliment to any laptop, netbook, or any other portable device you have too. I don't see why we are comparing an Android phone to the iPad.

I would be worried the iPad would cheat on the Droid with a Pre.

The iPad is pretty frisky.

Should work, as long as you are rooted.

I have the Wireless Tether app for rooted Droids and it sets up a Wifi hotspot that you can log into. The iPad should, hopefully, be able to log into such a hotspot using Wifi. No need for a 3G device or monthly ATT service. Theoretically.
