So let's see some stories where the iPhone exceeded expectations or perhaps did something you might not otherwise have been able to do...or just a really nice overall experience that made you look at your iPhone, nod, and smile.

My experience is pretty simple, but I did the google maps search then tap to call. Got me some nice Ribs with slaw and cornbread. It really worked very nicely.

I'm guessing other people might have more interesting stories than my pedestrian one...
 
My best experiences is with finding a movie.
I used Moviesapp.com to find the showtimes in my area, then I can tap on the theater and it launches google maps to show me the location. Or I can tap on trailer and it launches a new tab in safari with the trailer playing.

Simply awesome.
 
As I recently posted in another thread, I am a total convert from a "yeah but it doesnt do [x]" person after just a few minutes with one in the Apple store. I was blown away by how enjoyable and intuitive it is (worlds beyond any of my previous Blackberry/Palm products), not to mention the gorgeous screen. Google maps was more phenomenal than I expected, too. I look forward to owning one as soon as my current contract expires.
 
Just used call waiting the first time today. Impressively intuitive, simple and elegant.

Yes, I've done it on my RAZR, but accidently dropping one of the calls was always a crap shoot (and, I consider myself very tech savvy).
 
I checked the freeway traffic with googlemaps and saw RED ahead.. got off, took a shortcut...


So googlemaps and the abillity to go to real web sites on a whim... need to go to my desktop...

and the email... and the... and the...
 
I have found the ability to send and receive email to be quite valuable. I do freelance webdesign and development. Out of the blue I received a request for more information about my services. I was on break playing with my band. I was able to respond on the spot on a Friday night. The potential client was so impressed (and since I hadn't changed the signature it said "sent from my iphone"). The potential client was impressed with my responsiveness and had questions about the iphone. Long story short, new client in part because of the iphone.

The other thing I have found. I don't always carry my ipod with me and there have been several times I've been waiting in line, waiting on someone or something and found myself playing with the lame games on my phone (which I always have with me). Now, I have music, movies AND the web. I know people have lamented over the shortcomings, but for me the iphone has been worth every cent I paid. I think back to all of the times I had wished I could check my email, look up a weather map, look up directions, find a phone number and on and on. This device solves all that. Sure Edge isn't as fast as we would like, but at least it's available in most locations. I was out in the middle of nowhere last night with my telescope, I was able to get Edge.

I have 2 concerns with the iphone. 1) The headphone jack, my shure ear phones won't connect without a buck ugly adapter. 2) I am slightly concerned about durability. You can't have everything so I'm thankful for what the iphone does have.
 
I had EDGE on my BB Pearl was was leery of that network on the iPhone especially already being a Cingu..er..a AT&T customer. It was basically unusable. Any normal webpage would take 1min+ to load.

Either AT&T has bumped the EDGE network or the iPhone is just much more efficient online (or both), but now I can actually DO things on the go.

My fav has got to be Google Maps similar to the above post.
I was on vacation on the SC coast last week and could search restaurants on a whim in seconds, then call to make a reservation. Need some golf balls no problem, Google Maps to the rescue for the closest places to purchase. Even on EDGE I find Google Maps as fast as the demos on the Apple pages. I am pleasantly surprised.

I could get into how it is the best iPod I have every owned (and I had the orig, gen 3, latest nano, latest shuffle, iPod video) but you already know that.
 
My non-tech savvy brother was telling me about a YouTube video, and I had it pulled up and playing before he finished describing it. He tried to not look impressed, but it was cool.

BTW it was the Bud Light commercial about the tip jar.

Gotta love it!

...and pretty much everything else.
I like that I can listen to music without headphones. Speakers are surprisingly good.
Edge is better than rumored.
I love that it tells you the (general) location of a call when it's unknown (missed with no message - I've actually guessed who called correctly a couple of times).
I love having a gigantic list of Recent calls...the list, the date, etc.

The whole visual thing for pretty much all functions does it for me.

I hated, hated, hated, hated, hated call waiting and conferencing on the RAZR... like you said, "crapshoot"... It absolutely was.

This phone is, however, brilliantly intuitive. People will piss and moan to no end about the bells and whistles... no 3G, no this, no that... but when it comes down to it, regardless of what they say, people are enamored by products that are ridiculously easy, cool, and fun to use... because through all that comes functionality.

A phone with three hundred features and a convoluted user interface renders those three hundred features utterly annoying to use.

Think of how many times you just skipped using a feature on the RAZR because using it was too big a pain in the ass. That feature is then essentially useless.

There isn't a thing on the iPhone I don't love using. Sure I have my gripes but they're minor in comparison to the gains made from such an elegantly designed interface.

I get frustrated by every other type of interface now, because they're so clunky in comparison.
 
I am thoroughly pleased with my iPhone so far. The things that have totally blown me away and still amaze me everytime I use them are:

1. Visual Voicemail - I used to just check voicemail once a week if that just because getting into and going through voicemail was such a hassle. Now its the easiest thing and I think I will never use another phone unless it has this feature.

2. Safari - EDGE works so well that I sit in my car and around places just surfing the net. It works so well that I just cant stop using it. It comes in really handy and several times Ive needed to look something up and half a minute later had my answer.

3. Google Maps - Being able to look at maps on the go and get directions, and look up places and being able to call all at once is absolutely great. It has come in handy several times when needing to give directions to someone. It has all the exits and everything.

I pretty much love the way everything else works on the iPhone. Yea it doesnt have 3G and yea I cant use data and voice at once and yea its not on my favorite carrier Verizon so I take a hit in call quality but those are very minor issues compared to everything else the iPhone does great and does better than other phones. I can really see the phone market heating up as phone manufacturers start trying to outdo the iPhone. Atleast the good thing being on AT&T is if there is an awesome GSM phone I dont have to switch carriers once again. I dont see anything coming out and topping the iPhone for a little while though and Im sure that all the updates we have to look forward to will help keep it above everything else.
 
I LOVE everything about it!!! Love Google maps...Love Youtube videos. I did a search on one that my son told me I had to see & it brought it right up! Awesome. Even the Edge network is better than everyone was saying.
 
I was in Asheville, North Carolina for a Smashing Pumpkins concert (which I used the Google Maps to get me my directions from Florida, and it worked great!)...

I took out my iPhone to snap some photos of Billy Corgan playing guitar (I was front row, center) and the security guard started talking to me about the phone during an intermission...

Thanks to me letting him see the phone in action, he hooked me up with a guitar pick!

Pretty sweet.

I was also able to locate record stores in town with Maps.

anyway just one story...

yesterday me and a friend were driving from her place to mine (she was driving; about a 25 minute drive) and we wanted some food to take back to my place and relax and watch a movie.... so anyway we debate on what we want to eat and she decides pizza is best... so she suggest we will just go and pick one up and she starts saying we are going to have to wait til its finished...

****cue hero music****

whoop out my iPhone go into google maps app and type in the pizza place and bamn i have a map and phone number i press and im ordering the pizza for pick up.... show up to the pizza place ... and pizza is done and waiting...

it was just one of those moments that when i was done ordering and said... damn!... and smiled... just a feel good moment... :)

best phone ever!
 
The best experience was at the AT&T store getting the last 8gb model and just holding the box on the way out and seeing all them bitches in line that wasn't gone be gettin' one, oh snap.

But seriously: the best moment was opening up the box, it was awesome. Just seeing it for the first time in person was intense, and to know that it was all mine. Getting it activated was lame, and AT&T coverage is pretty terrible, but still. I love my iPhone, and seeing it for the first time, well it was love at first sight.

Yep, after a trial getting activation to work (prepaid option) for 2 days, my iPhone has been mostly perfect. Only 1 crash on Safari so far and well it has been a masterwork! :)

I think that once ATT improves the EDGE then we will be all set now :)
 
Last Tuesday I was talking to my dad who was in Hawaii -- his Windows laptop had died on him, and he'd decided to get a MacBook Pro to replace it. He was trying to get one before this past holiday weekend, but there were no Apple Stores on the island he's on. He wanted to get one ordered from a local Apple Store, and shipped to him on the Big Island, but he was out of his office, not near a computer, and it was nearing the deadline for shipping over there. His chances were looking slim with the 4th of July holiday coming up the following day.

With Maps, I looked up the number of the Honolulu Apple Store, called them, patched them together with my dad on a three way call, and let them do the deal while i kept the phone on speaker in my car -- all the way from Los Angeles.

Now my dad's happy with his new MBP, and I'm more than thrilled with my iPhone.
