I think that's the best approach for them to incorporate the third camera.
+ It wouldn't wobble! Yay!
+ Better 3d sensing and thus better portrait pics
+ Not tryharding at all.

It's great but unfortunately not realistic.

Apple is going for 3 cameras and flash in a square, Lego brick configuration because the TrueDepth/Face ID module is pretty thick. They can't have a camera module where TrueDepth is.

It doesn’t look right at all. And honestly, I think with Apple offering the triple lens camera, and having the cameras separated away from each other, it also allows for a greater depth for VR rendering, which I expect Apple to elaborate more on in the fall on this.
