Ny SE2020 bought may 2020.

After one year it was on 99%.

Now in November 2022 it’s on 89%.

Inaccurate readings. Do you really think after one year, it’s only down 3%?

Apple rates the pack at 500 cycles. You can do the math.

That’s exactly what it is. An unreliable feature that doesn’t help you at all check your phone’s battery health, while also ruining resale value for some people / or misleading others.

My first 11PM was at 100% after 14 months and at 97% after 2 full years. Obviously way over the actual health. My replacement is at 93% after 6 months.

My 12 Mini - 91% after 1 year. Only wired and mostly 5W or 10W Apple charger. Dropped to 99% to 91% in just 4 months.

On the other hand, my old iPhone SE 2016 's battery still hold 103% after whole 2 1/2 years with 400 charge cycles which is amazing. This one is 3rd party battery, replaced in May 2020.

My 12 PM went down to 91% in a year. It is still at 91% after almost two years!

According to Coconut battery, 92.8% and 771 cycles.

My 13 Pro has lost 5% of the health rating since iOS 16 was released. It’s currently at 94%, and was at 99 before I put 16.0 on it. Battery life has gotten noticeably worse, to the point I’m wondering if the battery isn’t failing.
I’m at about 225 cycles on the battery.

Battery health % is just one metric/estimate, and knowing what once triggered a sudden 3% drop, I’m not all that confident in it’s accuracy.

I use periodic battery recalibration/full run down tests to check how my battery ages. I do one when brand new as a benchmark (usually Apple spec) and then periodically when my battery meter goes out of whack and needs a recalibration.

The ‘500 cycle to 80%’ may be Li-ion industry standard for daily 100% charging, but if your usage pattern permits, partial charging can extend life to thousands of cycles. And since iOS13, a smarplug/shortcut-automated custom optimization makes it effortless/hassle-free after initial set-up. For example, recent recalibration/full run down tests on my 3yo XR and previous 10yo 5.

My mom has a 12 pro max, and is a light user. Within 1.5 years, the battery health dropped to 84%. She uses the fast charging cable though.

I was shocked bc after having my regular iPhone 11 for about 2.5 years, the battery health was 87%. I used it a lot more than my mom used her pro max. I feel like fast charging degrades the battery quicker. So I have always used the standard 5 watt charger, even on my 14 plus. When my sister started charging her 11 with the fast cable, the battery health dropped quite a bit also.
