When if you're using EDGE, your phone is tied in. AT&T and Apple didn't come up with a solution to at least let you decide to answer the call, like how Palm did with the Treo 755p.

So how are chat programs suppose to give you REAL TIME messaging when you're on EDGE which can't let you use your phone. What's the point of the phone then.

With the Treo, since it is an actual application, I can run the third party IM program 24/7 and still talk on the phone.
