Just a few questions:

What did you upgrade from

How are you liking your M2?

Are you seeing major differences between your old and new?

Coming from an iPad air 3, I am really disappointed in the 11" pro's display. The pixel response time is very poor. Scrolling black text on a white background leaves behind distracting orange streaks as the pixels so slowly change from white to black. 120hz is amazing, but the slow pixel response just ruins it for me, especially compared to the OLED screen on the iPhone 14 pro.

It's almost as bad as the first gen PSP screens if anyone remembers those, haven't used a panel this slow in ages. Doing some googling looks like this has been a problem since at least the 2021 pros with a few forum and reddit threads discussing the issue, so I don't think its a problem with my unit.

CPU/GPU performance, as expected, is great. Also, LOVE having 8gb of ram.

This screen is making me consider returning, however, and maybe holding off a few more years to upgrade when/if they switch to OLED.

It looks like this is an OS issue as it’s happening to some people with older iPads as well. Just food for thought in your decision on whether to return.

I love it! I'm coming from a 2018 11" Pro, and went back up to the 12.9" size. I missed having such a large screen for comics, textbooks, and drawing. I'm keeping the 11" for travel, though.

The screen is gorgeous to me and it's smoking fast.

Air 3 to 11 Pro

Liking the no home button and more screen. ProMotion is great. Quad speakers are great I can now hear things move from one side to the other like intended. Camera picture quality is improved. USB- C port can power flash drives without needing the camera adapter. Airdrop is faster obviously. Good upgrade for me. I will get the 2024 11 if there is one.

So far, so good... got a 11” cellular. Last iPad I bought was a mini 2 almost 10 years ago. Prior to getting this I would either have to use my phone or a MacBook Air M1. Really liking the portability of this thing… it’s pretty much perfect for travel since it’s got cellular and no physical keyboard. Now, if Apple ever put a cellular modem in a MBA, I might change my tune. Ya, I know…. you can tether, but who wants to run down the battery on two devices?

The 12.9 is terrible in this regard too. Pixel response time is dreadful.

How do you figure? You can’t write or draw directly on an MBP screen. You can’t use an MBP without the keyboard attached. Tablets and MacBooks have different utility and use cases.
Yup! Not sure why these comparisons keep happening. I can’t rip the screen off a laptop and put it on a treadmill.

Upgraded from an iPad Pro 10.5” (2017) to an iPad Pro M2 11”. Going from my previous iPad to this one has felt like a pretty decent leap in improvements. I love the lack of the large bezels and I think the Face ID is a huge benefit, especially as I’ve been using it with the Magic Keyboard. The extra RAM and performance is noticeable, especially when using Safari with a fair few tabs and also playing games. Very much looking forward to 16.2 and having proper external display support.

I can see why those with more recent iPad’s (same chassis as the current one) would be disappointed, but as I was going from the previous chassis, I feel it’s been worth it. More people should definitely try keeping devices for 4-5+ years before upgrading, they’d certainly save a bunch of money and be happier when they do upgrade.

Instead of running Genshin Impact (the most demanding game on iOS) at 116 FPS on the M1 12.9 iPad Pro, i now get 120 FPS on the M2 12.9 iPad Pro.

Best money I ever spend.

The jump from 2017 pro to 2018 pro was huge, in basically every aspect, probably bigger than from 2018 to 2022, especially for those that got the 6GB RAM version... I am looking fortward to the 16" iPad too

I'm moved up to the iPad Pro 11" from an iPad Air 2 purchased back in 2015, only because the battery on the Air crapped out. The Air was 128GB and had cellular where as the pro is 256 and wifi, but I spent about the same due to a Best Buy coupon posted here. Overall very happy with the upgrade, especially for the power it has, which I expect to come in handy with photo editing while traveling.

Will do the same for Christmas and very much looking forward to the 120hz and pencil use.

Just a few questions:

What did you upgrade from:
I haven't had an iPad for 5+ years. Last one I had was the OG iPad Pro 12.9 which the company issued me. I bought a personal M2 11 inch. My kids each have an iPad air 5

How are you liking your M2?
Very nice so far. Using it for taking notes and it will be my "personal" travel laptop when I'm away from home. Will be a great compliment to my work laptop which I don't use for any personal stuff.

All that said, I don't notice the 120hz refresh and think I may have been just as happy with an iPad air 5

Are you seeing major differences between your old and new?

Yes. iPadOS has grown tremendously since the OG iPad Pro I had. Also, iCloud and 3rd party iPad apps have gotten much better. I think this can be a good laptop replacement for me while I'm traveling.
