Not sure if I did a great job of explaining my question in the topic title, but I have an m1 Max 16", and I had it on my desk earlier and the lid was open. I usually press the lid closed by placing my left hand and right hand on each corner of the lid and pressing down simultaneously so that there is equal pressure on both sides, but I wasn't thinking what I was doing earlier and basically just placed my right hand around the back right side of the lid (maybe 3/4 of the way up), and pulled the lid closed this way.

This question might be silly but could closing the lid one-handed/from one corner cause any damage?

Haha. I wasn't expecting it to immediately break, I was curious if it could create issues long-term, as I did find another thread from ages ago where someone said to always use both hands to close the lid and never do what I did... so I'm assuming it does create issues but I dunno. That's why I asked! It's my first Macbook so i'm a little extra OCD about it right now.

Sounds like a really crappy laptop if that normal task breaks it

I’ve been closing laptops like that for ages, no issues

I've been slamming my crappy work Dell laptop closed for years now and it's still totally fine! If that computer can handle it, I would be shocked if a significantly better Mac couldn't!

Methinks that you are expressing a bit of general nervousness about your laptop. As long as you are not twisting or forcing your lid it will be fine as nothing is being stressed. Dropping it or throwing it around would be a lot more dubious but you are obviously not treating it roughly like that.
