How bad is the scaling on the iPad Pro 12.9”?

Last I checked not a lot of developers could be bothered to optimize their apps for the larger screen. Is this still the case and how annoying is it? How bad are games? I can imagine massive control graphics being more annoying than the larger screen making it a more enjoyable game.

That sucks and that app isn't cheap. I dabble in music myself and the main thing that turns me off to going too deep on the iPad is the small screen even on the 9.7”. Music apps would greatly improve if they would scale to show more on the larger screen. Any music apps you know that do, do that?

I figured it would only be Apple’s own music apps. Oddly Traktor for iPad formats differently between the 9.7 iPad and iPad Mini. I don’t think I’ve seen any other app do that. It would be great if NI also reformatted it for the 12.9 but I think they purposely wouldn’t do that because it would eat too much into their hardware sales. I think developers have just had it with having to scale for different devices and the 12.9 doesn’t have a large user base.

The only app I notice it on is Facebook - and it doesn't bother me in the least.

My other apps do pretty well in using the space. Including, but not limited to: Sketchbook, Procreate, Adobe Sketch, Adobe Comp (okay, all the adobe apps i use), Fallout Shelter, Office (esp. OneNote), Day One.

I'm actually pretty happy with my apps using the Pro's screen.

Yeah Facebook it is the most notable for me. The keyboard on FB is huge. It looks ridiculous. Haha. YouTube videos don't fill up the whole screen either. Or maybe I'm not doing something right.

Some Apps are annoying, i've taken to using the "feedback" section of apps that have been updated lately to tell them that their is a device that has been out over a year without an update for it within the app. I think some developers just generally aren't aware 12.9 iPad owners are using their apps.

It's pretty stupid that Facebook hasn't been updated yet. At this point I wonder if it ever will. FB Messenger, on the other hand, was updated almost right away.

However, most of the apps I frequently use have been updated, fortunately. The ones that haven't I either find alternatives or use only occasionally.

Most apps are optimized, those that aren't look fine. My only issue with un-optimized apps is the old keyboard (same as on 9.7" and 10.5" iPads, not full keyboard like on 12.9"). As for games - most are un-optimized, but you really don't notice it. Basically, the difference is small when it comes to sharpness, mostly noticeable for text - and, of course, if the app has a different layout that takes advantage of a larger screen. But when playing full-screen games, they don't feel blurry or anything close.

Basically, non-optimized apps are not an issue, no worries.

I use the website on iPad 12.9" - no reason to use the app, honestly (I use it just on the iPhone). Website on the iPad works just like on a Mac/PC. At least, that's how I feel about it.

Messenger is a different story, and that is optimized.

Everything I've messed with on mine looks alright. Haven't noticed anything so annoying that I couldn't deal with it.

I was worried about this when the 12.9 was first announced in 2015. It was not a problem back then and even less so now that developers have had 2 years to adjust.

Many seemingly haven't been optimized... Facebook (as mentioned), LinkedIn, apps like Redfin (love browsing real estate, but low res - ugh) and more. I really don't like the un-optimized apps since they're often clearly blown up and somewhat fuzzy... they work just fine so it's mostly ok, but when they are properly updated it is SO great
