How best to pack a 27" iMac for air travel

I don't relish the thought. But i love my iMac and it's relatively new. The alternative is to sell it for a fraction of the cost. And then, have to buy a computer in South America. Apple stuff is ridiculously expensive in SA, so replacing it isn't really an option. So... I decided to take it with me.
Suggestions on packing? I have the original box.

Not really. It's not going to save me anything and the chances of damage are just as great. Besides, I still have the same issue, how to pack it.

Might be a long shot, but contact apple support and see if they can send you a shipping box for a charge. Like the ones they would use to collect a product for repair.
