I've been out of the techy side of Windows for a long time now and was just wondering what size to make by Windows partition when my iMac arrives? I'll be doing all I can in OS X and using XP for the odd program which still isn't Mac supported. Apart from that, I'd like to play the odd game too - HL2, PES5, BF2 etc.

How much does the average XP & boot camp install come to?

Would 40Gb be more than enough or is that overkill?

Can you re-size the partition at a later date without having to reinstall?

Thanks!

40GB sounds like it would be fine. You could probably use less, but it all depends on what application you will install. Modern games tend to take up multiple gigabytes of hd space, so it might fill up fast.

30gb, I'll never use that much either. Should have had 10gb with one of my external HDD's as Fat32.

I set mine to 32GB and I feel that is overkill. I only use Windows for gaming and I have, so far, only installed 2 games heh.

Well the application I have in mind is small, so maybe 30Gb is more realistic. Thanks for the responses.

you may not (or may) want to do this, but when my new MBP gets here i will give windows a 10GB partition to just install the OS and updates, and install all my actual game programs (HL2, Quake4, etc) on an external firewire drive. that way i retain the maximum internal space and yet still can have as many games as i want available to me.

25.6GB with ~15GB free. Vista RC1 5600. Only PS7 installed (less than 700MB).

18.2 GB. i do most of my torrent downloading and p2p stuff in windows (keeping mac os virginal)....

i find this is more than enough.

Which would be better (as in faster performance) for games on an iMac, XP or Vista?
Any will be fine (Unless its stupidly small).

mine is 10 gigs, i dont use if for anything just to look at files that are mae for windows. and you can not resize the partition without reinstalling.
