I want to put an SSD in my 2012 Mini I just bought.
I wonder if Apple is deliberately trying to make their customers unhappy.
No. OS X loads the appropriate drivers for the SSD and HDD and disables the TRIM command for all non-Apple SSDs. The Fusion Drive has nothing to do with TRIM.Just curious, when added aftermarket ssd and merged into fussion drive with spinner, doesnt that ensure trim on that aftermarket ssd without any hacks (trim enabler, kext hacking, etc)??
I've come to the conclusion (my opinion and mine only) that TRIM probably isn't needed for many (perhaps most) situations.

My own experience:
I bought a late 2012 Mini in January 2013.
In mid-March 2014, I picked up a Crucial m500 240gb SSD.
I put the SSD into a plugable.com "lay-flat" USB3/SATA docking station, and have run the Mini from this configuration since.
My Mini is my "main computer", heavily used, often ten hours a day or more.
I've never used TRIM with this setup. Actually, one can't, because TRIM isn't "installable" when booting via USB.
Below left is a BlackMagic speed test I made when I first installed the SSD, March 13, 2014.

I ran trim enabler on Mavericks but didn't think "no trim" would be an issue when I upgraded to Yosemite on my 2012 Mac Mini. (samsung 840 ssd) It started acting slow after 1 week on Yosemite. Black Magic test showed 50 MB write speed. Downloaded newest Trim Enabler (yes I read all the warnings) and enabled trim. Ran BM test 2 days later, speeds near normal again.
niteflyr - How full is your Samsung 840 ?
I guess the good news is that if we experience slow downs, re-enabling TRIM will bring our speeds back.
It's only about half full. I was surprised by the slowdown.
