How big of a USB stick do I need to make a bootable Yosemite drive?

I just picked up an 8GB USB stick but some sites are saying you need 16, others are saying 8. Is 8 going to be okay?

8 GB is fine. I have been using 8 GB with DiskMaker X for a good while now.

I have it on an 8GB thumb drive and it works fine - have done several installs with it.

8 is fine, I did.

(4 is too small though)

I used an 8GB SD card. Did so with Mountain Lion and Maverick's also.

The file is just over 5 gigabytes so an 8GB flash drive is the minimum.
