Just curious, how big of a price drop will the previous iMacs have once the new ones arrive in later 2017? Anyone remember how 2015 went down?

Heavily dependent on where you're located. If you're in the US, you'll likely be able to pick up some sweet deals (especially if you're willing to go open box) at local retailers like Best Buy (or if you're willing to shop eBay). But yeah, as far as a general guideline check the % off for refurbished models of last gen macbook pros on Apple's website (for your region) as a guide.

Apple doesn't discount the prices too much, as mentioned its under 15%, you may find better deals at bestbuy or amazon.

After the alleged previous years updates I just hope we will finally notice a difference with the 'new model'.
LOL, yes the "2015" RiMac, which was basically just the 2014 RiMac (performance wise) with components that ran cooler and thus didn't throttle/exceed 105 degrees under heavy load...

Apple stops selling older models as soon as newer models are released. However, any leftover stock will appear under "refurbished" on the Apple website a month or two later.

When you compare prices, be aware that they will quote a rebate "from the last sale price". So if you have an item that cost $999, and Apple replaces it with a better model for $999, the quoted rebate is relative to the original $999 even though nobody would pay that much if it was offered in a store.

And a much better screen, you know, the whole reason you get the iMac.

Fair enough. I HAD forgotten about the P3 color gamut of the screen on the 2015 model. It's nice (I've seen them in person and the difference in colors was definitely noticeable), but I wouldn't call it a "much better screen." More like a noticeably improved screen. The jump from 1440P to 5K was huge. It spoils you to such a degree even 27" 4K (what I'm using now :( ) seems just "acceptable" in comparison. Compared to that, the jump to P3 is more like "oh, well that's nice."

If we're truly going to go with iMac lives or dies by the screen (which in a lot of ways it does) I'll take my wider color gamut with a dash of OLED, some proper HDR support, and if possible an ultra wide option before I call it a "much better screen."

Surprise
Might not drop much at all vs. what you can get them on sale for today. If Apple does to the iMac what they did to the MBP (USB-C only expansion) it is going to turn off a lot of people who then might opt for getting the 2015 models.

If you go into the display settings of the 2014 Retina iMac, there is a P3 option. You'll get the wider gamut just using that option. Try it
